Electric Ireland has been mandated by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) to take over the electricity supply of Panda Power Residential and Business customers, as the designated supplier of last resort.

Panda Power customers can still switch supplier from Panda Power to a supplier of their choice without incurring a termination fee up to and including the 28 September 2022.

Electric Ireland will adhere to the CRU guidelines to ensure the customer transition is as smooth as possible for all remaining Panda Power customers. Electricity supply will not be interrupted.

What is the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR)?

If a supplier exits the market, The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has the power to take action to ensure affected customers are guaranteed continuity of supply and their rights are fully protected. The CRU will initiate the “Supplier of Last Resort” procedure. Under this procedure Electric Ireland is obliged to accept the transfer of all remaining Panda Power electricity customers in order to ensure their supply is not interrupted. Gas customers will be moved to Bord Gáis Energy.

What do Panda Power customers need to do?

Panda Power customers can switch to a supplier of their choice up until 28 September 2022. If Panda Power customer do not switch suppliers, on 1st October 2022, all remaining Panda Power electricity customers will automatically transfer to Electric Ireland for a minimum of 90 days, until at least 29 December 2022.

We would encourage all customers who are looking to transfer to Electric Ireland from Panda Power to submit a meter reading to Panda Power before being transferred to Electric Ireland on 1st October 2022.

What Happens if Panda Powers customers don’t want to be an Electric Ireland customer?

Customers can still switch supplier from Panda Power to any supplier of their choice without incurring a termination fee up to and including the 28 September 2022.

What happens next for Panda Power customers if they transfer to Electric Ireland?

Panda Power customers who transfer to Electric Ireland will join on our standard tariff rates for electricity for a minimum 90 days. Customers can contact Electric Ireland to discuss tariff offers that will be available to them, and from 1st October 2022 we will communicate with customer who were previously with Panda Power to discuss some of our great value electricity offers.

Do Panda Power customers need to submit a Meter Reading to switch?

We would encourage all customers who are looking to transfer to Electric Ireland from Panda Power to submit a meter reading to Panda Power before being transferred to Electric Ireland on 1st October 2022.

Panda Power look after my gas supply? Will Electric Ireland also supply my gas?

Bord Gais has been appointed by the CRU as the Supplier of Last Resort for your gas supply.

However, Panda Power gas customers can still switch their gas supplier from Panda Power to a supplier of their choice without incurring a termination fee up to and including the 28 September 2022.

If Panda Power gas customers do not switch suppliers, on 1st October 2022, all remaining Panda Power gas customers will automatically transfer to Bord Gais as they have been appointed by the CRU as the Supplier of Last Resort for your gas supply.

Customers can contact Electric Ireland to discuss electricity and gas price plans that will be available to them.

Will I be on the same rates with Electric Ireland that I was on with Panda Power?

Electric Ireland will put you on one of the lowest standard unit rates in the market with our Standard Residential tariff for the 90-day period. During this 90-day period you have the option to sign up to one of our great value price plans. We will communicate with customers about these price plans.

What happens to the credit on my Panda Power electricity account?

Any credit/debit that you have on your Panda Power electricity account will be addressed by Panda Power and not by Electric Ireland.

Does Electric Ireland provide a monthly billing option?

Electric Ireland customers who have a smart meter installed and are signed up to one of our Home Electric+ plans can choose monthly billing.

Does Electric Ireland provide online billing?

Yes, Electric Ireland provides online billing to both residential and business customers. You will need your account number and MPRN to register. Your MPRN is available on your previous energy bills and your new account number will be issued to you in due course after the switch to Electric Ireland is complete.

What happens if I have a smart meter?

Electric Ireland has a number of Home Electric+ plans for smart meter customers.

I am a priority customer at Panda Power / I am a vulnerable customer at Panda Power. How does this switch impact me?

I am a Pay As You Go (PAYG) customer at Panda Power. How does this switch impact me?

Pay As You Go customers with Panda Power will transfer to Electric Ireland. We will communicate with these customers about next steps.
