The Irish Times and Electric Ireland launch Ireland’s Greenest Places 2025

Electric Ireland is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Irish Times to launch Ireland’s Greenest Places 2025, a nationwide initiative celebrating the people, communities, and projects driving sustainability across the country.

Driven by our commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, this partnership reflects Electric Ireland’s mission to empower, enable, and support customers and communities on their journey towards a sustainable energy future.

What is Ireland’s Greenest Places?

Based on The Irish Times successful model of ‘Best Places’, the media outlet will partner with Electric Ireland to bring you Ireland’s Greenest Places. A sponsorship which aims to discover people, initiatives, and places that are working for a brighter, more sustainable future in Ireland.

Do you know a place in Ireland which has a great story of hard-working people coming together to make a difference? This can be anything from small to large scale changes you are making in your community, such a new biodiversity area or a sustainable community centre.

Categories will include:

  • Ireland’s Greenest Suburb
  • Ireland’s Greenest Town
  • Ireland’s Greenest Village Award
  • Ireland’s Greenest Community
  • Ireland’s Greenest Place Award
Entries will be judged on criteria such as beneficial environmental impact; level of ongoing collective engagement; and evidence of behavioural change by people. Once entries are sent in these will be shortlisted by an expert panel of judges. The panellist include:

  • Mary Minahan, The Irish Times Features Editor (Chair)
  • Lisa Browne, Head of Marketing, Electric Ireland
  • Eamon Ryan, Former Green Party Leader
  • Rosita Boland, The Irish Times Senior Features Writer
  • Kevin O’Sullivan, The Irish Times Environment Editor
