Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments Podcast' Season Four Episode Three

Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, has today released Season Four, Episode Three of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring Dublin Camogie player Emma O’Byrne.
This week, host Fergal O'Keeffe sits down with the Dublin Camogie star to chat about her unconventional start in in the sport, the challenges and triumphs of her minor years, and the advice she would offer to aspiring young players hoping to follow in her footsteps.
O'Byrne remembers starting Camogie at the age of 12 or 13, a relatively late entry compared to many of her teammates. Before finding her passion for Camogie, she explored a variety of other sports, including soccer and boxing, even training with Olympic gold medallist Michael Carruth. It was the collective component of Camogie that ultimately won her over, as she explains, "I really, really fell in love with Camogie and the whole team element of it", which was a stark contrast to the individual nature of boxing.
Reflecting on her minor years specifically, O'Byrne acknowledges the challenges of breaking into the Dublin development squads, initially finding herself on the "D" team. However, her positive attitude and determination helped her progress, eventually leading to a successful minor career and a place on the senior squad.
Drawing from this journey, O'Byrne emphasises the importance of playing with freedom and avoiding overthinking, a lesson she learned from former Dublin dual star David ‘Dotsy’ O’Callaghan. It's a philosophy she now shares with the Dublin minor team of 2025, encouraging them to embrace the present, value the friendships they forge, and make the most of every opportunity to play.
Looking ahead, O'Byrne expresses a strong sense of optimism for the future of Dublin Camogie, as well as noting the increased professionalism and growing profile of the sport, while also acknowledging that continued progress and improvement are essential to ensure sustained success.
Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Michael Duignan of Offaly, Ciaran Murphy of Galway and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
