Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments Podcast' Season Four Episode Seven

Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships, has today released Season Four, Episode Seven of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring former Mayo Football star Conor Mortimer.
This week, host Fergal O'Keeffe sits down with the football legend to explore his sporting days from minor right up to senior, the peaks and troughs of his career and the advice he would offer to current minors from the invaluable lessons he has learned.
Hailing from a passionate GAA household, Mortimer speaks on his love for football and his emergence at a young age as an exceptional talent in the underage Mayo set-up. His impressive youth career included two years at minor level and four years at u-21 level with his county. Conor highlights his standout minor moment as pulling on the Mayo jersey for the first time and seeing his name in the Mayo News. Speaking on a small set-back in his early minor days, he discusses the importance of a positive set-up and environment being key to the development of young players.
Touching on injury, Mortimer shares his experience of an ACL tear where he took the unconventional route and made the choice to forgo surgery. Conor also praises Mayo for having the ‘best of the best’ psychological support at all playing levels, while still maintaining that the best 15 players on the field on any given day will ultimately win games.
Reflecting on his distinguished career, Conor recalls the memories created from winning the Sigerson Cup with DCU right up to his iconic “Michael Jackson” celebration moment with Mayo. Looking ahead he believes Mayo winning a Football All-Ireland Senior Championship would explode the belief of young players across the county.
Offering his advice to the next generation of minors, the All-Star emphasised that ‘you need to dedicate as much of your life as you can to make it at the top level’. He stressed there are going to be setbacks, that is a part of sport and to not let those impact your belief, and the achievement of your goals.
Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
