Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments Podcast' Season Four Episode Nine

Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships, has today released Season Four, Episode Nine of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring Limerick Hurling legend Ciaran Carey. Host Fergal O’Keeffe sits down with the 3-time All-Star to delve into his youth career across minor and u-20s, the crucial lessons he learned along the way and his thoughts on this year’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. 

Ciaran Carey, a household name in the county, offers a compelling look back at his formative years, from his inter-county debut at U14 to stepping into goal for the Patrickswell seniors at just 17. He provides insight into the profound role sport and the GAA played in shaping his life and can have on shaping the lives of youth today. The Limerick star shared his experience with mental performance and the unique pressures of elite competition recounting how he used to relish the intensity of inter-county GAA. 

The discussion revisits Carey’s iconic Munster Final-winning point against Clare in 1996, widely regarded as one of hurling's greatest scores. Speaking on the evolution of GAA players, Carey notes that while the ambitions to excel and perform remain constant, today's athletes benefit from a more scientific approach. From detailed nutrition and extensive strength and conditioning – this is a marked shift from previous eras.

The episode explores the emotion Carey experienced watching Limerick’s historic All-Ireland win in 2018, the first since 1973. Being the uncle to hurling sensation Cian Lynch, Carey speaks on noticing his immense talent in his youth and believes his recent promotion to the Limerick hurling captain will only elevate his thinking and game to another level.

Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
