Can I still switch online to Electric Ireland if I am in receipt of Free Gas Allowance or Free Electricity Allowance?
Yes, you can use our online switch application to switch your account to Electric Ireland. Please Note: From 8th September 2025 due to a change in the Department of Social Protection policy - the option of Free Electricity Allowance payments made directly to the utility bill is no longer available.
Please refer to the Department of Social Protection website for information on how to apply for/retain your Free Electricity Allowance following a switch.
