Tips and support for managing your energy costs

Energy bills can feel challenging at this time of year, especially when your electricity bill is higher than expected. You’re not alone, we’re here to help you understand what’s driving the changes and share practical ways to stay in control.

Why bills may be higher this year?

Colder temperatures mean heating systems run more often, which increases overall energy use. Shorter days also mean more time indoors, leading to lights being on for longer and greater use of appliances and devices.

Another key factor this winter is the change to government supports. Budget 2026 did not include the electricity credits that were provided in previous years, which helped offset winter energy costs. As a result, your bill now reflects the full cost of your usage, and this is one of the main reasons many customers are seeing higher bills this year.

Electricity Credits in Recent Budgets

  • Budget 2023: €600 (three €200 credits)
  • Budget 2024: €450 (three €150 credits)
  • Budget 2025: €250 (two €125 credits)
  • Budget 2026: No credits
