Electric Ireland launches Season Five of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast

FOUR-TIME ALL-STAR AND SIX-TIME ALL-IRELAND WINNER LAURA TREACY FEATURES IN SEASON FIVE EPISODE ONE OF ELECTRIC IRELAND’S ‘GAA MINOR MOMENTS’ PODCAST
Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships, has today released Season Five, Episode One of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring four-time All-Star and six-time All-Ireland winner Laura Treacy.
This week, host Fergal O’Keeffe sits down with the Camogie icon to explore her remarkable journey, from her formative Minor years and the profound influence of family and community, to her illustrious inter-county career and recent transition from the elite game. Treacy offers candid insights into the drive for perfection, the importance of physical and mental well-being, and life beyond the pitch.
Laura recounts her early days in Killeagh, where GAA was a way of life, nurtured by her parents and the strong role models in her club, including Joe Dean, Angela Walsh, and Mary O'Connor. She highlights the crucial role of parental support, particularly for teenage girls in sport, and speaks about the importance of greater visibility for female athletes in establishing women as role models.
A defining moment in Treacy’s development came at 16, when she was not selected for the U16 A team. This disappointment, she reveals, became a powerful catalyst, teaching her resilience and determination. It pushed her to excel at club senior level, ultimately leading to her selection for Cork Minors and then the Senior panel. She reflects on how setbacks can provide valuable lessons, shaping her into the successful player she became. These lessons became integral to her philosophy on striving for perfection, dealing with mistakes, and thriving under pressure, often entering a flow state during big games.
Offering advice to the current generation of Minor players, Treacy encourages them to “Just be willing to learn… always strive, keep your standards really high.” She stresses the importance of continuously seeking that “extra one or two percent” in their development, both on and off the pitch, as a foundation for a successful and fulfilling journey in sport.
Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Niamh Rockett and Elaine Dowds, as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
