A Major Training Session for Local Wicklow GAA Club Team, Tinahely

On Saturday 24th November, we created a major moment for Tinahely GAA Club in County Wicklow when we brought former Cork footballer, All-Star and 2018 Electric Ireland Minor Star Awards judge Daniel Goulding to their training pitch. Daniel put the clubs players through their paces with an interactive training session and brought along training kits, footballs, bibs and cones courtesy of Electric Ireland.

As a part of our ‘This Is Major’ campaign, we gave local schools, clubs and communities a chance to win a major training session and, while the Tinahely Minor team won the competition, it was an experience for the entire club.

Daniel coached an hour-long tactical focused training session with the team, where he used his expertise to help with kicking, tackling and shooting drills. After the session they rounded off the day with a meet and greet in the clubhouse attended by Club members where Daniel offered his insights on working towards a GAA career at County Level.

The session had an impression on Wicklow and Tinahely Minor player, Eoin Darcy. Eoin, who was named on the 2018 Electric Ireland Minor Football Team of the Year and was recognised at the Electric Ireland Minor Star Awards, said  “It was great to have Daniel at Tinahely GAA Club today, he is a legend on the Football field, so to be able to play with him on our own home pitch and learn a bit from him afterwards about his own experience of getting into the County jersey was inspiring for myself and the team. We all work really hard so it is nice to see first hand from Daniel how that effort can pay off on the field into the future. The visit brought brilliant excitement for the whole club, this will most definitely stand out as a major moment for me!”.

The young Wicklow men impressed on Cork born and raised Daniel who commented; “The training session was great fun, I was really impressed by the level of talent on the pitch here in Tinahely GAA Club. The lads got stuck into it right from the beginning and looked to have really enjoyed the various drills and skills we practiced. It is great to see such dedication from young men, it’s definitely a bright future for Wicklow GAA”
